Stockholm, Sweden 30th August 2010

Beginning in the summer of 2006, I and companion Lina set off by bicycle from Stockholm, Sweden to pedal our way to Cape Town, South Africa. The route went through Western Europe to Spain, and then from Morocco through West and Central Africa to South Africa – following the coast as far as possible. Neither one of us was anywhere near a professional adventurer or athletic. I travel not for what it takes, but for what it gives. I focus on meetings with people and the countries I travel through, rather than the physical challenge of making it fast and rough. I believe that there is no better way to travel than by bicycle, so why not use it through Africa?

Come July 2008, I again pedalled away on the saddle. The two wheels took me through Eastern Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia, and the trip lasted for a bit over a year. I finished off in Beijing, China.
